Vijay meets Tamil Nadu Guv for 4th time, stakes claim to form govt after securing support of 120 MLAs
The latest boost to Vijay's party came after the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) formally extended support.
Vijay’s father said that the actor-politician wanted to stand on his own legs and refused pre-poll alliances.
With Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leading in 110 seats in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, his father SA Chandrasekhar on Monday expressed confidence that his son will become the Chief Minister and bring a positive change in the South Indian state.
Speaking to a news agency after trends indicated Vijay’s TVK was close to the majority mark of 118 seats, his father said, “In the last 30 years, he had been thinking that he had to do something for society, for the Tamil people. It was there in his mind. Slowly, he has developed these things. Today, he is going to be the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”

“Every lady considers him as her own son. Young people consider him their own brother. Everyone calls him Anna. Anna means brother. Old ladies, they consider him their own son. Some 60-year-old ladies consider him their grandson. He has developed that relationship between the public and him,” he said.
Chandrasekhar further added that he is happy for his son and wishes him the best, while also appreciating his positive attitude.
“As a father, I am very proud and happy. My wishes to my son. In the last two years, his confidence has been fantastic and the faith that I will come as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. I’m appreciating that attitude,” Vijay’s father said.

He further added that Vijay wanted to stand on his own legs and refused pre-poll alliances. “I think it’s a historical success, a historical victory for Vijay,” he added.
Earlier, Chandrasekhar reportedly reached out to the Congress, urging the party to join the TVK as it appears to fall just short of majority. Some reports also suggested that the Congress may offer support to Vijay in case he falls short of the majority.
