In the wake of repeated occurrences of natural disasters in recent years in Himachal Pradesh, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasised the need for lifestyle changes.

In a continued effort to support those affected by the recent natural calamities, the Governor flagged off three pickup vehicles carrying essential relief materials from Raj Bhavan in Shimla. The relief consignments are being dispatched through the State Red Cross Society to the district administrations of Mandi and Kullu.

The relief materials include family tents, tarpaulins, kitchen sets, blankets, new clothes, bed sheets, mattresses, and other essential household items, aimed at providing immediate support to families devastated by the disaster.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of natural disasters, particularly cloudbursts in the region.

“The recurring incidents of cloudbursts and related natural calamities in various parts of Himachal Pradesh are a serious cause for concern. It is time we reconsider our way of living and make necessary adjustments to coexist with nature more harmoniously,” he said.

The Governor informed that he had recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the situation in detail. “The Prime Minister expressed his concern and assured every possible support to Himachal Pradesh. Appropriate relief will be extended after the central team’s assessment report is finalised. The Centre has always stood by Himachal Pradesh in times of need,” the Governor said.

Shukla noted that this was not the first instance of relief dispatch from Raj Bhavan.

“Earlier, three pickup vehicles of relief supplies were sent for the affected families in Mandi. Today, once again, we are sending three more vehicles—two to Mandi and one to Kullu. More supplies will be arranged if required,” he said.

The Governor further stated that he would personally visit Mandi later today to meet the affected families. “Tomorrow, on Sunday, I will visit Thunag and the Seraj region to interact with disaster-hit residents and assess the ground situation,” he said.
