In a decisive move to make Haryana a stray cattle-free state, the Haryana Government will launch a statewide stray cattle-free campaign in mission mode from August 1 to 31, 2025.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Dr Saket Kumar, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, with officials from the Gau Seva Aayog, Urban Local Bodies Department, and Animal Husbandry Department.

This initiative follows directions issued by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who has called for urgent and coordinated efforts to resolve the stray cattle issue across Haryana.
As part of the campaign, all stray cattle will be identified, tagged, documented, and relocated to registered gaushalas, where they will receive proper care and shelter. The drive aims to ensure humane treatment and effective management of stray cattle across both urban and rural areas.
Dr Saket Kumar also announced that the Animal Husbandry Department will soon establish Gau Abhayaranya (Cow Sanctuaries) in four districts of the state. These long-term shelter facilities will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
In alignment with the Chief Minister’s announcement, the state government has approved an incentive scheme to encourage the rehabilitation of stray cattle.
Under this scheme, Gaushala personnel will transport stray cattle to designated shelters. After verification by the department concerned, financial assistance will be provided through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) at Rs 300 per calf, Rs 600 per cow, and Rs 800 per bull.
A total of Rs 4 crore has been sanctioned for the implementation of this scheme.
