Four passengers travelling in the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity train were run over by another train near Morena in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday evening. The tragedy struck when the passengers got out of the train onto the railway tracks in panic over a rumour of a fire onboard.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred at around 4.30 pm. The four passengers were killed after being hit by the Patalkot Express, which was coming on the adjacent track.

They had gotten off their train following a chain-pulling incident triggered by a rumour of a fire onboard.

According to Manoj Singh, the Public Relations Officer for the North Central Railway’s Jhansi division, the passengers who alighted from the train failed to notice the approaching train and were run over, resulting in four deaths.

The incident was reported to the railway authorities, and the police were alerted.

Unconfirmed reports said that the deceased included three women and a child.
