Rajnath to file nomination from Lucknow LS seat on 29 April
Polling for the Lucknow LS seat will be held in the fifth phase on 20 May. Nominations for the fifth phase will commence on 26 April.
A CBI court in Ghaziabad sentenced five policemen to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 38,000 each on Wednesday in connection with the cold-blooded murder of a carpenter, Rajaram, around 16 years ago in Etah district.
Another four policemen were awarded five years of jail with Rs 11,000 fine for removing the evidence.
According to the prosecution, police constable Rajendra had engaged Rajaram for some work at his residence, but when he demanded his wages, the policeman killed him in a fake encounter with the help of other policemen of Sidhpura police station labelling him a criminal.

The then station in-charge, Pawan Singh, SI Pal Singh, Sarnam Singh, Rajendra Prasad and jeep driver Mohkam Singh, have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a special CBI court. The court has imposed a fine of Rs 38,000 each on all the five convicts.
Apart from this, four policemen – Baldev Prasad, Ajay Kumar, Awadhesh Rawat and Sumer Singh – convicted of destroying evidence, were acquitted of murder charges, but in the case of erasing evidence and giving false information, they were handed five years of imprisonment each along with Rs 11,000 fine.
Though the victim had no criminal case against him, police termed him a noted mafia man and even cremated his body without informing his family members.
Special judge (CBI) court Ghaziabad Parvendra Kumar Sharma gave the judgement on Wednesday.
As per the crime history, on August 18, 2006, Rajaram was picked up by police at 3 pm while he was on his way to his relative’ place and was killed in the dead of night in an ‘encounter’ by the police team in the forest area of Sunhara village.
After the police refused to lodge any case or give any justification for the encounter, on June 1, 2007, the Allahabad High Court registered a case and ordered a CBI probe. The CBI filed a chargesheet on June 22,2009 and trial in the case started on December 4, 2015 where the CBI produced 202 witnesses.
