The first session of the 16th Kerala Legislative Assembly will officially convene on Thursday, when the newly elected members will take oath.

The election for the post of Speaker will be held on May 22, while Governor Rajendra Arlekar will deliver the customary policy address on May 29.

Despite securing a landslide victory in the Assembly elections, the Congress party delayed the selection of its Chief Minister for eleven days after the declaration of results. The party high command finally named VD Satheesan as the Chief Minister on Thursday.

The oath-taking ceremony of the Chief Minister and the new ministers will be held at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Stadium on Monday morning.

Chief Minister-designate VD Satheesan met Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Thursday evening and formally staked his claim to form the government.
