The office of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has not yet cleared for the permission to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to go to Singapore to attend the World Cities Summit, sources in the Delhi government said on Friday.

The file related to the visit of the Chief Minister’s scheduled visit to Singapore in July is among many files pending clearance from the L-G office. This development is expected to cause a fresh standoff between the L-G’s office and the Arvind Kejriwal government.

There was no immediate reaction from the office of the Lieutenant Governor in this regard. Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had accused Saxena of “flouting the law” to favour the BJP. He had leveled this allegation after the LG approved the Anti-Corruption Branch to probe allegations of irregularities in the construction of seven temporary hospitals here during the Covid pandemic.

Official sources said the file regarding the visit of the Chief Minister to Singapore is pending approval since June 7. “Many important files of the Delhi government are yet to be cleared by the Lieutenant Governor, including the one related to the visit of the Chief Minister to Singapore,” he said.

The file is with the L-G since June 7.

He claimed that the files of many minor issues are also stuck in the Lt Governor’s office. Official sources said this may affect governance in Delhi. Officials said that according to the ‘protocol’, any minister, including the Chief Minister, has to take approval from the Home Ministry for official foreign visits and the file for approval is sent to the home ministry through the lieutenant governor’s office.
