Father of a NEET aspirant, whose death has triggered widespread outrage across Bihar, has raised serious questions on the fairness of the probe being conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Bihar Police in the case. In a letter to Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar, he has demanded an impartial and comprehensive investigation on eight specific points.

The father pointed out that the death was initially described as a natural death or suicide, and that allegations of sexual violence were dismissed at the very outset of the investigation. But the evidence coming to light as part of the SIT investigation have placed the working style of the Patna Police under serious scrutiny.

The deceased’s father has requested a review of CCTV footage from the back side of the hostel building, as well as forensic (FSL) examination of CCTV footage from nearby lanes and roads. He has also demanded that the mobile Call Detail Records (CDRs) of hostel owner Manish Ranjan, hostel operator Neelam Agrawal, her son Ashu Agrawal and the doctors who were in contact during the student’s treatment should be included in the investigation.

The letter specifically calls for a review of the role and investigative actions of Roshni Kumari, the Station House Officer of Chitragupt Nagar police station.

The father has also emphasised that Prabhat Memorial Hospital, Patna, did not hand over the clothes worn by the student to the family, even though these could have been crucial pieces of evidence. He has also urged a recording of the statement of the nurse who had told the student’s mother that “something very wrong has happened to the girl.”

Preparations for DNA testing of 15 people including the suspects, relatives and acquaintances of the deceased are underway. So far, the SIT has collected blood samples of the deceased’s parents, brother, uncles and three suspects.

Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Home Minister Samrat Choudhary has acknowledged that an atrocity had been committed against the girl from Jehanabad. He also said that instructions have been issued to investigate every aspect of the case thoroughly. He asserted that the police are completely independent to take action against everyone involved and assured that the guilty will be punished.
