Every student must be disciplined and have an outlook for the development of the country, said Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu. He was addressing the 31st Convocation of the Kurukshetra University at Kurukshetra, Haryana, on Thursday.

Naidu said that there is a direct linkage between education and employment and asked students to acquire knowledge and skill to take up new opportunities.

Naidu also advised students to contribute to the nation. Education is not just for employment and it is also for enhancement of knowledge and enlightenment, he added.

Naidu also said that the young people are both the present and future of this country. “You can achieve your life’s goals while proud of your university, teachers, parents, culture and values,” he added.

The Vice President appreciated the government of Haryana for giving priority to sports and complimented all the winners who have earned medals in recently held Commonwealth Games.

Naidu said democracy allows meaningful debates on all pertaining problems and added that only constructive debate can provide answers.

The Vice President further said that protests should be peaceful and no one has the right to destruct public property. Violence cannot be a solution, he added.

The Governor of Haryana, Kaptan Singh Solanki, Education MInister Ram Bilas Sharma and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
