The Election Commission of India is widely expected to announce the launch of a nationwide Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls on Monday, following a crucial two-day conference that finalised preparations for the exercise. The anticipation stems from a Press Conference the poll panel has scheduled for 4:15 PM on Monday.
The expected announcement follows the conclusion of a pivotal two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) last Thursday at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi. This high-level gathering marked a decisive step towards ensuring meticulous and inclusive preparation for the SIR across the country.

The conference, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, brought together CEOs from all States and Union Territories. Their focus was on finalising the SIR readiness to guarantee accurate and inclusive voter lists, which are crucial for free and fair elections.
“This conference is not a routine check but a reaffirmation of our commitment to strengthen the foundation of our democracy through precise electoral roll management,” said CEC Kumar. He stressed that the “accuracy and inclusiveness of voter lists are non-negotiable,” and demanded full preparedness from all States and UTs.
Building upon a September 10 review session, the conference scrutinised progress in aligning current electors with those registered in the last SIR, emphasising data integrity and minimising discrepancies. Senior Commission officials addressed technical queries raised by the CEOs to ensure clarity on the complex SIR process.
A key agenda item was the evaluation of the training and deployment status of electoral functionaries, including District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Assistants (BLAs). These personnel are the bedrock of the SIR exercise.
In a tailored approach, the ECI also conducted one-on-one interactions with CEOs from states slated for upcoming polls, including Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal, to provide specialised support for regional election preparations.
The strategic emphasis on transparency, coordination, and comprehensive readiness underscores the ECI’s relentless pursuit of electoral excellence and reinforces its role as the guardian of India’s democratic processes as the nation approaches critical electoral milestones.
