The Election Commission of India has completed the preparation of the Electoral College list for the 2025 Vice-Presidential Election. This development comes after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation on July 21, paving the way for a new election.
In a press note issued on Thursday, the EC said that the electoral college comprises elected members of the Rajya Sabha, nominated members of the Rajya Sabha, and elected members of the Lok Sabha, totaling 788 MPs (588 in Lok Sabha and 245 in Rajya Sabha).

The Vice-President is elected through a proportional representation system using a single transferable vote, with voting done by secret ballot. Each MP ranks candidates in order of preference.

The poll panel said that the list has been finalised and arranged alphabetically based on the State/Union Territory of the respective Houses. The list will be available for purchase at the Election Commission of India from the date of notification.
Though the Election Commission is set to announce the election schedule soon, it said that the poll must be held within 60 days of the vacancy and before September 19.
The Vice-Presidential election is being held early due to Dhankhar’s sudden resignation, citing medical reasons.
