In a major strike against drug trafficking networks, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized a significant quantity of narcotic substances under an operation codenamed “Rainbow.”

Acting on specific intelligence about cocaine being smuggled in small quantities concealed inside soft toys and routed through domestic courier networks, DRI officials in New Delhi developed the lead and launched coordinated search operations at multiple premises in Mehrauli.

“The intelligence resulted in coordinated search operations at multiple locations. The operation led to the recovery of 3,095.5 grams of cocaine, 4,421 grams of hashish, 1,305.5 grams of MDMA in tablet form, and 46 grams of amphetamine,” the Ministry of Finance said on Tuesday.

The seized narcotics, weighing nearly 9 kg in total, are valued at approximately ₹40 crore in the international illicit market. A large portion of the contraband was found in the form of tablets and small pouches, ready for distribution.

The operation involved targeted searches in a densely populated and highly congested locality of Delhi. One individual has been apprehended under provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Initial investigation points to the involvement of an international syndicate operating through foreign nationals in Delhi, using courier networks for concealment, trafficking, and distribution of narcotics.

Further investigation is underway. The Ministry said the operation once again underscores DRI’s commitment to combating the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in India.
