Senior advocate Prashant Kumar Singh, a member of the Jharkhand State Bar Council and a well-known face in the state’s legal fraternity, has been appointed as the Deputy Solicitor General of India (DSGI) for the Jharkhand High Court by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.

With this appointment, Singh has become the first advocate from Dhanbad to be entrusted with this prestigious responsibility. He is also the first Dhanbad-based lawyer ever elected to the Bar Council of India (BCI), marking a double milestone for the region.

Singh, who has been practising law for over two decades, has earlier served as Senior Panel Counsel for the Union of India in the Jharkhand High Court. His official listing with the Department of Legal Affairs (Law Ministry) reflects an established record of representing the Central Government in several important cases.

Former Dhanbad MP Pashupati Nath Singh, expressing pride in his son’s achievement, said, “It is a matter of immense joy and pride for our family and for Dhanbad. Prashant’s hard work, discipline, and deep understanding of the law have earned him this honour. I thank the Government of India and the Law Ministry for reposing faith in him and wish him success in this new role.”

Members of the Jharkhand High Court Bar Association and colleagues from the Dhanbad Bar have lauded Singh’s appointment, calling it a recognition of merit beyond metropolitan circles. Senior advocates in Ranchi said his elevation will motivate young lawyers from Jharkhand to aspire for national-level roles.
