A large number of people took holy dips at different rivers in Uttar Pradesh and performed religious rituals on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Sunday.
In Prayagraj, millions of devotees took dip in the confluence of Ganga-Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. This was the second bathing occasion in the ongoing annual Magh Mela.
Officials said that more than two million pilgrims have taken the holy dip in Sangam and nearby areas since Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, offered ‘khichdi’ at the Gorakhnath Temple.
Lakhs of devotees reached Gorakhnath Temple amid bitter cold to offer ‘khichdi’ to Shiva avatar Guru Gorakhnath.
The one-month-long world-famous Khichdi fair, strengthening social harmony, also commenced in Gorakhpur. Special care has been taken for the safety of all the devotees.
The ‘Khichdi Prasad’ was also distributed to all devotees in a joint feast in the temple premises.
