A Delhi court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of Gaganpreet Makkad, accused in the Dhaula Kuan BMW crash that killed Finance Ministry Deputy Secretary Navjot Singh, as per media reports. The court extended her judicial custody till Saturday.
Makkad, arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash driving, had filed a bail application on Tuesday, arguing that custodial interrogation was unnecessary as she had cooperated with investigators, was not a flight risk, and posed no threat of tampering with evidence. She also maintained there was no intent of negligence on her part.

The crash occurred on Sunday evening when a speeding BMW, allegedly driven by Makkad, rammed into a motorcycle at Dhaula Kuan, killing Navjot Singh on the spot and critically injuring his wife, Sandeep Kaur. CCTV footage and eyewitnesses indicated that the Gurugram resident was driving rashly with her husband, two children, and a domestic help in the car.
According to Sandeep’s statement, despite her pleas to be taken to the nearest hospital, the victims were transported nearly 19 km away to NuLife Hospital in GTB Nagar, where Makkar’s father is a co-owner. Police are probing whether the diversion was part of an attempt to cover up the case. The hospital maintained that due procedures were followed but declined to comment on ownership.
Eyewitness Gulfam, who took the victims to the hospital, told police: “I was coming from Dhaula Kuan when I saw the accident. I put the injured man and woman in my car. A lady in the front seat instructed me to drive towards Azadpur and take them to NuLife Hospital.”
