Member of Parliament Deepender Singh Hooda has demanded that the investigation into the alleged suicide of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar be conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
Calling the incident “extremely tragic and shocking,” Hooda said in a statement on Friday that not only Haryana but the entire nation is stunned by the death of a talented and upright police officer. “The entire system stands under a cloud of suspicion,” he remarked.

Hooda stressed that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done, and it must be ensured that no one is able to influence the investigation in any way.
“An impartial and independent probe is possible only if the SIT functions under the direct oversight of a sitting Supreme Court judge. Only then will the truth come out, and those found guilty must face the harshest punishment,” he said.
The MP added that the government bears the prime responsibility to ensure that people’s faith in the system is restored.
“Justice can only be achieved through an independent and transparent investigation. Today, the entire nation, especially the Dalit community, is looking towards the government with hope that justice will prevail, and that it will be ensured in both spirit and appearance,” Hooda said.
Referring to the suicide note left by IPS Y Puran Kumar and the FIR filed by his wife, Amneet Kaur, a senior IAS officer, Hooda pointed out that several senior police officers have been named in the complaint.
The FIR includes serious allegations of harassment, caste-based discrimination, and persecution.
“These allegations against top officials of the police force, who are supposed to be the custodians of law and order, are deeply disturbing and raise grave concerns about the system itself. Justice is possible only through a fair and unbiased investigation,” Hooda asserted.
