A CRPF jawan was killed and another injured on Tuesday when terrorists opened fire at a patrol party of security forces in the Batmaloo locality of Srinagar.

The incident reportedly happened next to fire and emergency station, which is in the vicinity of the police control room.

Two men on a motorbike fired at the security party. The two injured jawans were shifted to the police hospital about 500 meters away from the attack site, where one of them succumbed to his injuries.

This is the second major attack in the heart of Srinagar and comes around 40 days after the killing of journalist Shujaat Bukhari.

The Rising Kashmir editor-in-chief was killed by bike-borne terrorists when outside his office in the Press Enclave area of Srinagar on 14 June.

Meanwhile in another incident, an unidentified militant surrendered before the security forces in Kashmir. He was later sent to his home.
