The Tis Hazari’s Special Sessions Court in Delhi started the cross examination of the sister of Unnao rape case survivor in the case of alleged assault and murder of her father in judicial custody on April 9 last year.

The survivor’s mother was cross examined on October 9. Earlier, the hearing was not completed because the opposite council did not appear before the court.

The court might take cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the gang rape case.

Apple the I Phone manufacturer on October 9 had told the Special Sessions Court that it does not have the details of the location of accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s phone on the day he allegedly raped the girl.

Earlier, Special Judge Dharmesh Sharma had asked the iPhone manufacturer to give the court the details of the location of the accused MLA on the day the alleged rape took place, by October 9. The court had on September 29 given the company time after the technology firm sought two weeks to locate and access the requisite data.

The Unnao rape case witnessed new developments on October 4 as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge-sheet accusing three men of gang-raping the Unnao rape survivor, a week after she was allegedly raped by former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in 2017.

A chargesheet was filed at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court of District Judge Dharmesh Sharma as a separate case.The court listed the case for October 10 after CBI sought time to file additional documents and a list of witnesses to be examined.

Earlier, in September the apex court had granted two weeks to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to complete its investigation into the accident case of the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer.

On July 28, the car in which the rape survivor, her lawyer and two of her aunts were travelling was hit by a speeding truck in Rae Bareli. The accident killed both her aunts and left the other two seriously injured. Brought to AIIMS last month, both the rape survivor and her lawyer remained on advanced life support systems and were being treated by a multidisciplinary team from the critical care, orthopaedics, trauma surgery and pulmonary medicine departments. She was recently released from hospital and has alleged a threat to her life. The car crash too is being investigated.

Unnao rape case made it to the headlines on April 8, 2018, when the rape victim attempted to immolate herself in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence when her father died in police custody the following day and video clips of him being brutally beaten by Kuldeep Sengar’s brother Atul Sengar emerged on social media.

On April 13, Kuldeep Sengar was arrested. He is in jail and awaiting trial.
