The estranged wife of cricketer Mohammed Shami Hasin Jahan, who accused the Indian pacer of physically and mentally abusing her, joined the Congress party in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Jahan was inducted to the Congress by the party’s Mumbai president Sanjay Nirupam.

The official Twitter handle of the Mumbai unit of Congress took to Twitter and posted pictures of Jahan’s induction with a tweet, “Mumbai Congress President @sanjaynirupam today welcomed Model Hasin Jahan , wife of Cricketer Mohammed Shami to Congress family.”

Jahan, who is a model, had earlier this year hit the headlines by accusing Shami of being involved in several extra-marital affairs. She had alleged that she was being physically and mentally abused by Shami. The cricketer has denied all the allegations levelled against him by his wife.

On April 10, Jahan had filed a domestic violence case against Shami and other members of his family in Kolkata’s Alipore court.

Jahan had also alleged that Shami had taken money from a Pakistani woman named Alishba on the insistence of an England-based businessman, Mohammad Bhai.

She had also sent documents related to her complaints against her husband to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai for a probe into her allegations of corruption.

Following the allegations of corruption in cricket, the BCCI had initially decided to withhold Shami’s contract. However, the cricket board later gave a clean chit to Shami.
