CPR’s mother elated and delighted at son’s nomination as VP candidate

With Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan and BJP leader on the course of becoming the country’s vice-president after being chosen as the nominee of the BJP-led NDA, his mother Janaki Ammal was extremely delighted at his son assuming the high constitutional office.

She also shared a secret behind naming her son Radhakrishnan. “He was named after former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, as I desired him to come up in life like the former President, an erudite philosopher. Today that dream-moment has come true,” she told the media after cutting a cake to celebrate his son’s elevation in her hometown Tirupur, the hosiery and knitwear capital of India.

Stating that she prayed to the almighty for his victory, Janaki Ammal, also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bestowing this honour upon her son.

The NDA’s Vice-Presidential nominee, Radhakrishnan, hailing from the dominant OBC Goundar community of Western Tamil Nadu, would be the third Vice-President of the country after Dr Radhakrishnan and R Venkataraman, who went on to become the President. The late President APJ Abdul Kalam was the last President from the state.
