The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Friday called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take urgent measures to restore public confidence in the electoral process.
In a statement issued by its Polit Bureau, the party expressed concerns over the fairness of elections, citing irregularities in the preparation of electoral rolls and malpractices in recent state elections.

The CPI(M) has raised concerns over the ECI’s impartiality, particularly in the wake of recent state elections in Maharashtra and Karnataka, where malpractices were alleged. The party has also pointed to issues with the SIR process in Bihar, which, it said, has raised questions about the accuracy of electoral rolls.
The CPI(M) also urged the poll panel to conduct thorough inquiries into the issues raised by the opposition and to demonstrate its commitment to transparency and impartiality. “The EC should clear the apprehensions… It is the duty and responsibility of the ECI to conduct thorough inquiries into the issues raised by the opposition,” the CPI(M) said.
