“It is to be noted that even some of the alliance partners of the BJP like the TDP have voiced their concerns about the SIR,” the left party claimed.
The CPI(M) also expressed serious concerns about the Maharashtra Public Security Bill, Jammu and Kashmir’s status, evictions in Assam, and the Kerala Governor’s actions.
Key issues highlighted by the Left party, while calling for nationwide protests against the EC’s SIR initiative, the CPI(M) has demanded repeal of the Maharashtra Public Security Bill, saying it curbs democratic rights and targets opposition.
The CPI(M) also demanded restoration of statehood to J&K after a security lapse in Pahalgam. It also expressed concerns about what it said “targeted attacks on Bengali-speaking people in BJP-ruled states.” The Left party has also opposed evictions in Assam, alleging exploitation of ethnic differences for communal polarization.
Some of the CPI(M)’s other concerns include Kerala Governor’s Actions, which it criticized saying that the State Governor was promoting RSS ideology and undermining secular values.
It also opposed the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill which it said allows private exploitation of mineral resources.
The CPI(M) also said it opposes trade deals compromising India’s sovereignty.
It also congratulated workers for the successful July 9 General Strike.
Further, the CPI(M) has decided to hold its Central Committee meeting on September 13-15.
