Meanwhile, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam said the Kerala government is not going to implement the scheme. Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Binoy Viswam said he did not think that the CPM would go ahead with the PM SHRI Scheme. “The National Education Policy would not be implemented in the state at any cost. As per my understanding, the designated central funds would be provided only if the NEP is implemented completely,” he added.
He said that the CPM is one of the parties in the country which strongly opposes the RSS politically and ideologically, and hence it won’t support any of the programmes of the right-wing outfit.
Earlier, the LDF government in Kerala had decided to launch the PM SHRI scheme in state schools, setting aside objections from ally CPI.
Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Sunday said that the state has informed the Union government and directed officials to sign the agreement, noting this was necessary to access Rs.1,500 crore in pending Central funds for education projects. He said joining the Union government scheme is only a practical way to get the due funds and it would not make any difference in Kerala’s existing educational policy.
