Leader of Opposition and ex-chief minister Jairam Thakur has expressed concern over the grim situation in Himachal Pradesh following heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours, which has severely disrupted normal life in most parts of the state.
He said on Saturday that the Chandigarh–Manali highway is closed at several locations, while the entire Kullu district is badly affected. Bilaspur has also suffered heavy losses.

Thakur pointed out that earlier spells of rain had already caused significant damage in Una and other regions, leaving a large section of the population facing hardships.
The latest downpour has worsened the situation, especially in tourist destinations where conditions have become more precarious.
He urged the government to ensure that disaster-affected residents, as well as tourists, do not face any inconvenience.
Thakur also appealed to the people of the state and visitors to strictly follow the instructions of the administration in view of the weather and to take care of themselves and their families.
According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a loss of 219 lives, including 112 deaths in rain-related incidents and 107 lives lost due to road accidents this monsoon from June 20 till Saturday. 315 injured and 37 persons are still missing.
Loss to public property, including private and government, has been pegged at 1998.88 crores. Incidents of 53 landslides, 58 flash floods, and 30 cloudbursts have been reported so far.
A total of 362 roads are closed across the state, where Mandi district is the worst affected with 220 roads blocked, Kullu 91, and Kangra district 22 roads blocked. 520 water supply schemes have been disrupted.
