The Opposition Congress staged a walkout in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly alleging that the BJP government in the state is misleading the women beneficiaries of the ‘Laadli Behna Yojana’ by not providing them the long-promised Rs 3000 per month, and on top of it some ministers are making derogatory comments against the sisters.

Congress MLA Mahesh Parmar raised the question on Monday during the ongoing budget session of the Assembly. He charged that a false promise of Rs 3000 per month has been made by the government, which is actually providing only Rs 1500 per month.

He also alleged that Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah directed officials to reconsider providing benefits to such women beneficiaries who do not come to felicitate Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav at the Laadli Behna events.

Parmar also accused minister Karan Singh Verma of saying that names of the women who do not come on stage during such events should be cut from the beneficiary list.

Parmar questioned whether the state government had ‘bought’ the Laadli behnas of the state by providing them monetary benefit. He alleged that the state government has made the Laadli Behna beneficiary women a means to ensure the success of government events.

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav told the House that the state government has fulfilled its promise of increasing the monthly benefit from Rs 1000 to Rs 1250, and now to Rs 1500. He assured that the state government stands by its promise of providing Rs 3000 per month to women beneficiaries, and it would be definitely done by 2028.

Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar asked when the state government would update the list of women beneficiaries to add the names of those women who have now attained the eligibility age for the scheme.

Women and Child Development Minister Nirmala Bhuria said the BJP government is more concerned about the sisters than the Opposition Congress. She, however, said it is not yet possible to provide an exact date by when the new names would be added.

Dissatisfied at her reply, the opposition Congress raised slogans and walked out of the house.
