Spandana, known for her vocal criticism of the BJP, had recently congratulated Nirmala Sitharaman on her appointment as the first woman Union Finance Minister since Indira Gandhi.

“Congratulations @nsitharaman on taking charge of a portfolio that was only last held by another woman, Indira Gandhiji in 1970 – makes us womenfolk proud! The GDP not looking great, I’m sure you will do your best to revive the economy. You have our support. Best wishes,” the Congress leader had tweeted.

The Congress had recently banned all of its spokespersons appearing on television debates for about a month.

“All media channels/editors are requested to not place Congress representatives on their shows,” the party’s spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had tweeted on Thursday.

According to ANI, Congress did not comment on why Spandana deleted her account.

Spandana’s disappearance from social media came a week after the announcement of Lok Sabha election results, in which the Congress performed very poorly winning just 52 seats in the 543-member lower house.

Following the debacle, Congress president Rahul Gandhi apprised his party of his decision to quit as chief. Adamant that he continues in his current role, party leaders have been trying to convince the 48-year-old Gandhi scion to change his mind.
