Congress candidate Advocate Akash More, who is all set to contest the byelection from Baramati assembly constituency against Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, has offered to withdraw his nomination if the Fadnavis government registers an FIR in the Ajit Pawar air crash case and begins an investigation.
It may be recalled that Sharad Pawar-led MLA Rohit Pawar had tried to get an FIR registered in the Ajit Pawar air crash twice, once at Mumbai’s Marine Lines police station and later at the Baramati police station, but the police refused to register an FIR on both occasions.

Speaking to media persons on Monday, Advocate Akash More, “We are fighting this battle to protect democracy and oppose the ideology of the BJP. The air crash was not a coincidence. The truth must come out. If the government registers an FIR and investigates the matter seriously, I will think about withdrawing my nomination”.
Senior Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe supported the Congress candidate’s demand, wondering why no FIR was filed in Maharashtra despite the demands from even Ajit Pawar’s family members, including Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar herself, for a CBI investigation.
Reacting to the Congress party’s move to contest against Sunetra Pawar, senior BJP leader and Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “Congress should not contest the election from Baramati. “If they do so, we will defeat them like never before. They will not be able to show their face anywhere. The Congress should support Sunetra Pawar,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar broke down and delivered an emotional speech while filing her nomination papers from Baramati assembly constituency. “It has been two months since Ajit Dada left, but even today I cannot believe that he is no longer with us. His passing is not only my personal loss, but also a great loss for Baramati and the state.”
Baramati, she said, was like a mother to Ajit Dada. Every citizen here was like Lord Panduranga to him. The constituency was his life-breath. “I have put my sorrow aside to fulfill his dreams for the people of Baramati. Your love and support is what gives me the courage to move forward. This is not just an election, but an opportunity to pay tribute to Ajit Dada,” said the Deputy CM.
“Every building in Baramati has Ajit Dada’s touch. I assure you all that Baramati’s prestige will not be diminished in the slightest. Ajit Dada was a leader who kept his word. Every citizen of Baramati is a member of my family. I will never leave you in the lurch. This election is not mine but that of the people of Baramati. It goes without saying how much the people of Baramati love Ajit Dada. I am confident that you will support me even more than you have supported Ajit Dada till now,” Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar said.
“Baramati’s development will continue. We have the strong support of the Mahayuti government. I will continue to work to maintain Ajit Dada’s legacy. As the daughter-in-law of a four-time Chief Minister (Sharad Pawar) and the wife of Ajit Dada, who was a six-time Deputy Chief Minister (Ajit Pawar), I will get the strength to manage the state. No one can take Ajitdada’s place. His thoughts will be carried forward. You are my family. I will not leave anyone behind. Ajit Dada’s Janata Darbar will continue,” she assured said.
