Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh on Saturday praised Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP, sharing an old photo of BJP leaders, including LK Advani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sharing the picture on X, Digvijaya Singh wrote, “I came across this picture on the Quora website. It is very powerful. It shows how a grassroots RSS swayamsevak and a Jana Sangh/BJP worker, who once sat on the floor at the feet of senior leaders, went on to become the chief minister of a state and the Prime Minister of the country. This reflects the true strength of the organisation. Jai Siya Ram.”

Reacting to the Congress leader’s remarks, the BJP described them as an “open rebellion”. BJP’s National Spokesperson Tuhin Sinha said, “Open rebellion by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh against the toxic megalomania of Gandhi family. Ideally the Congress party must now consider dissolving the party as advised by Mahatma Gandhi at one point of time.”

However, another BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi called it an internal matter of the Congress party. “There’s nothing very important about it… Digvijay Singh didn’t question Rahul Gandhi’s understanding,” he said.

Later, in a clarification of his remarks, Digvijaya Singh said he was only praising the organisation and was against the RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I support the organisation. I am against the RSS and Modi ji. You have misunderstood. I have praised ‘sangathan’. I was, am, and will remain a staunch opponent of the RSS and Modi. Is it a bad thing to strengthen and praise the organisation,” he asked.

His remarks praising the organisational strength of the RSS and the BJP came days after he suggested that Rahul Gandhi should consider reforms in the Congress party. He said that the Congress party needs a “more Pragmatic Decentralised Functioning”. He exuded confidence in Leader of the OOppostion Rahul Gandhi’s ability to carry out these reforms, but added the biggest challenge is to “convince” him.
“Like Election Commision of India needs Reforms, So Does Indian National Congress. You have started with “Sangathan Srijan” But we need more Pragmatic Decentralised Functioning. I am sure you would do it because I know you can do it. Only problem is that it is not easy to “Convince” you!!” he had said on X, tagging Rahul Gandhi.
