A day before the closing of the filing of nomination papers, the Congress party on Wednesday fielded late Bhanwarlal Sharma’s son Anil Sharma in Sardarpura assembly bypoll slated for December 5.
Sardarshahar constituency of the Churu district in Rajasthan fell vacant after the death of Bhanwar Lal Sharma, 77-year-old veteran Congress leader, on October 9, 2022.
Late sharma represented this constituency seven times.
Bhartiya Janta Party has again fielded Ashok Kumar Pincha, who was defeated by the Congress candidate late Bhanwarlal Sharma in 2018- assembly polls, in Sardarshahr assembly bypoll.
Anil Sharma is presently chairman of the Board of Rajasthan State Economically Backward Class.
The Congress had a tendency to give party tickets to the late MLA’s son or wife in previously held assembly bypolls in Sujangarh, Ballabgarh, and Sahara assembly constituency since 2018 when it came to power under Ashok Gehlot’s Chief Ministership.
However, out of assembly elections in Sardarshahar, the Congress has won nine times, while BJP won two times in 1980 and 2008. Three times Janta Dal, and one time LokDal candidates won the assembly polls since the first election in 1951.
December 17 is the last date of filing nomination papers and withdrawal of papers by November 21. The counting of votes will take place on December 8.
Later in the afternoon, BJP candidate Pincha filed his papers after he held a roadshow on the street accompanied by senior party leaders including Leader of Opposition GC Kataria, Deputy Leader R S Rathore, and BJP State President Satish Poonia.
These leaders also addressed the party workers assailing the Gehlot government for its alround failures in last 4 years.
Poonia said the sympathy wave will not run this time as the Congress considered on all previous bypolls, because late Bhanwarlal did not bring any special change and program in the constituency, and farmers were crying for loan waive scheme. All leaders appealed the janta to cast their votes to BJP candidate.
