Addressing a press conference, a senior officer said, “The accused was arrested in a joint operation Wednesday morning.”

As part of the investigation, the team tracked Rawat’s movements using CCTV footage, the officer added during the briefing.

Rawat had been booked in over 26 criminal cases related to theft and snatching in the past.

During the preliminary investigation, the CCTV footage from several routes was collected and meticulously analyzed, the officer told the reporters.

On the basis of the leads gathered, Rawat’s identity was ascertained, and he was arrested during a targeted operation conducted by officers from the New Delhi, Southwest, and South districts, along with AATS and the RK Puram police station.

Adding to his statement further, the officer said the accused was released on bail on June 27 after being arrested in a vehicle theft case lodged in Ambedkar Nagar in April this year.

The officer said they have confiscated the stolen gold chain and seized the scooter used in the crime. Amongst other recoveries were four stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle.

According to the data provided by the officer during the briefing, the New Delhi district has recorded a 48 percent decline in snatching-related PCR calls.
