Communal tension erupted during a Ganesha immersion procession, leading to stone pelting from two sides in a village in the Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to police officials, the incident occurred in Biroda village on Sunday night.

As per SP Abhishek Bagri, seven people from both sides were arrested in connection with the incident. He said more arrests could take place on the basis of the ongoing investigation into the matter.

The police said that the tension erupted over the reciting of the Hanuman Chalisa during the procession.
People from two communities came face to face and began pelting stones at each other. About six people sustained injuries in the incident.

SP Abhishek Bagri said that the CCTV cameras installed around the spot are being scanned. A heavy police force has been deployed in the village to deal with any untoward incident.

The SP said that the situation is normal now.
