Factionalism deepens in JD(U) amid succession debate and Anand Mohan’s attack
For long, political observers have been deliberating over the future of the Janata Dal (United) after Nitish Kumar.
‘You run the government but hand over party leadership to Nishant,’ RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha also advised the Bihar chief minister.

On the 44th 44th birthday of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant on Sunday, senior leaders and workers of the Janata Dal (United) renewed their demand for his entry into active politics to take the party’s leadership forward.
Former Union minister and Rashtriya Lok Mocha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha also joined the chorus, saying Nishant is the new hope of JD(U). He also advised Nitish Kumar to continue leading the government but hand over the party’s leadership to Nishant.

The RLM chief asserted that any delay in doing so could prove detrimental to the JD(U) — possibly a loss that might never be compensated.

In a message posted on social media platforms, Kushwaha said: “I humbly request Nitish Kumar Ji to kindly accept the truth, considering the sensitivity of the time and circumstances, that it is no longer appropriate for him to manage both the government and the party simultaneously.”
He said the chief minister’s vast experience in running the government should continue to benefit the state, which is currently essential for the state’s interest. However, as regards the transfer of the party’s responsibility (which, in my opinion and that of thousands of workers/leaders of his own party, the time has now come), Nitish should take a firm decision in a timely manner.
“This is in the interest of his party. Any delay in this matter could cause irreparable damage to the party, perhaps a loss so severe that it may never be compensated,” he said.
“What I am saying, perhaps the JDU leaders may not be able to say to the chief minister, and even if some people could say it, they might not be able to reach him,” he added.
