Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was felicitated on Sunday with the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur at a ceremony held on its campus.
According to a press note of the poll panel, the award was conferred upon the CEC during the celebration of the institute’s 66th Foundation Day. Kumar, who graduated from IIT Kanpur with a BTech in Civil Engineering in 1985, received the institution’s highest alumni honour in recognition of his outstanding achievements and exemplary contributions to society and nation-building.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award, which began in 1989, is presented annually to IIT Kanpur alumni for their excellence across various fields. The institute selects individuals not only for their outstanding professional or academic accomplishments but also for their notable service to the institute and their pivotal role in nation-building.
Previous recipients of the DAA include an illustrious list of names spanning academic excellence, entrepreneurial success, professional leadership, and service to the nation. Kumar’s recognition adds another significant public service figure to this esteemed roster.
