Even after the Sports Ministry asked him not to remain active for the next couple of days following allegations of harassment by a section of women wrestlers, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh opened the Wrestling Championship in Gonda on Saturday.

The 3 days event got off to a colourful start

at the Nandini Nagar in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh in presence of thousands of people on Saturday morning.

The stage is set for men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle matches in the event.

A large number of men and women wrestlers from all parts of the country have reached Nandini Nagar to participate in the tourney.

Notably, the sports ministry on Friday asked Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh not to remain active as the Wrestling Federation of India’s president following the allegations of harassment on a section of women wrestlers against him.

Singh was flanked by his son and Gonda Sadar MLA Prateek Bhushan Singh, Wrestling Association Vice President, Karan Bhushan Singh, BJP MLAs Ajay Singh and Palturam.
