Reacting to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heading towards a historic maiden victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday termed the outcome a triumph of nationalism and democracy.

Dr Yadav alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had consistently supported infiltrators and anti-national elements, asserting that this led to the electorate voting against the Trinamool Congress and in favour of the BJP.

The MP Chief Minister also took a swipe at Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, claiming that the nature of his public statements often emboldens disruptive forces.

Union Agriculture Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also expressed strong satisfaction over the party’s performance, stating that a long-standing pledge had been fulfilled with the BJP’s success in Bengal.

As early trends indicated a clear lead for the BJP, large numbers of party leaders and supporters gathered at the state BJP headquarters in Bhopal. The atmosphere turned celebratory, with workers garlanding leaders, exchanging greetings, distributing sweets, bursting crackers, and dancing to the beats of drums.
