The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday moved against former Union minister Raj Kumar Singh, suspending him from the party for what it described as repeated “anti-party” conduct. The decision comes just a day after the National Democratic Alliance’s comfortable victory in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.
A suspension letter issued from the state BJP headquarters stated that Singh’s recent statements had damaged the organisation and amounted to serious indiscipline. The former Minister of State has been given seven days to explain why he should not be expelled.

The letter stated: “Shri Raj Kumar Singh Ji, Former MP, Arrah, Your activities fall under the category of anti-party and indisciplined behaviour. The party has taken this matter seriously, as it has caused harm to the organisation. Therefore, as per the instructions, you are being suspended from the party, and a show-cause notice is being issued asking why you should not be expelled from the party.”

RK Singh, a former IAS officer and once one of the party’s prominent faces in Bihar, has been openly criticising the BJP’s state leadership for months. He repeatedly targeted Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, questioned Janata Dal (United) leader Anant Singh’s influence, and raised concerns about the government’s power-sector agreements.
Earlier this month, Singh uploaded documents online alleging a Rs 62,000-crore corruption scandal linked to a proposed power project.
He also accused the Election Commission of failing to enforce the Model Code of Conduct during the polls. “The Election Commission must ensure strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct. This is a failure of both the Election Commission and the district administration. It is deeply concerning and unacceptable during the election period,” Singh had said.
Meanwhile, the BJP also suspended MLC Ashok Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal for campaigning for their son, Saurabh, who contested the Katihar seat on a Vikassheel Insan Party ticket against BJP candidate Tarkishor Prasad.
RK Singh joined the BJP in 2014 after retiring as Union home secretary and went on to win the Arrah Lok Sabha seat twice. He later served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and Renewable Energy.
However, after losing the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Singh grew increasingly vocal against the BJP’s Bihar unit, often clashing with senior leaders.
His future in the party now depends on the explanation he submits to the disciplinary panel.
