The campaign trail for the upcoming municipal body elections in Haryana witnessed a blend of unusual promises and cultural outreach on Thursday, May 7.

In Rewari, BJP MLA from Pataudi, Bimla Chaudhary, sparked a buzz by promising to facilitate marriages for bachelors in exchange for votes. Speaking at a rally in support of the BJP’s chairperson candidate, Vineeta Pipal, Chaudhary assured the youth that if the party is brought to power, she would take personal responsibility for finding matches for those struggling to get married.

Chaudhary later reiterated her stance to the media, asserting that her commitment to the city’s development includes the social well-being of its residents. She remarked that once their chairperson is elected, no bachelor in Rewari will remain single, urging voters to prioritize their support first. Meanwhile, in Panchkula, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari intensified the party’s campaign by reaching out to the Purvanchali community. During a high-energy 20-minute performance, Tiwari sang several hits, including his famous track ‘Lollipop Lagelu,’ while campaigning for the BJP’s mayoral candidate.

Tiwari used the stage to attack the Congress party, accusing them of attempting to drive people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh out of Punjab during their previous tenure. He cautioned the diaspora against “misleading narratives,” citing similar rumors allegedly spread by Congress in West Bengal regarding the snatching of local resources.

Tiwari further emphasised the BJP’s inclusive approach, pointing to the construction of Chhath Ghats in Panchkula as a mark of respect for the community’s traditions.

Highlighting the party’s ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ philosophy, he cited the example of ward candidate Shekhar Pandey, a native of Motihari, Bihar, who has been given a platform to contest in Haryana. Tiwari concluded by stating that the BJP treats every citizen with equal dignity, contrasting it with the opposition’s alleged history of regional bias.
