A controversy arose during the Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s winter session over a meeting of BJP Brahmin MLAs at the official residence of party MLA P N Pathak from Kushinagar. Now, the MLA himself has responded to the controversy, and his statement, given through social media, has once again intensified political activity.

BJP MLA Pathak, in his post on ‘X’, said that the Brahmin community works to unite society, not divide it.

He wrote, “Jai Shri Ram, Jai Sanatan, Jai BJP. In the Sanatan tradition, Brahmins are considered the guides, thinkers, and balancers of society. Where Brahmins gather, there is a churning of knowledge, wisdom, and contemplation, which strengthens Hindu identity. Their duty is to unite society, not divide it.”

It is noteworthy that after this meeting in Lucknow a few days ago, discussions began in political circles. The party leadership expressed displeasure, linking it to organisational discipline. State BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary had also given a stern warning to the MLAs who attended the meeting.

Political analysts believe that Pathak’s statement is being seen as an attempt to clarify his position after the party president’s warning. However, the BJP has not yet given any official reaction to this statement.

The meeting of Brahmin MLAs and the reactions to it have given rise to a new debate in the state’s politics regarding caste equations and organisational discipline.
