Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s meeting with his estranged cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, former Maharashtra chief minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said that the BJP has realised it won’t get votes in the name of Narendra Modi in the state and that is why they are trying to “steal a Thackeray”.
“BJP knows very well that they don’t get votes in the name of PM Narendra Modi in Maharashtra… People vote here in the name of (Bal) Thackeray,” Uddhav Thackeray said while addressing a gathering in Nanded district.
“This realisation prompted the BJP to try to steal leaders from outside. First, they stole the photo of Bal Thackeray, but it doesn’t matter,” he added.

His remarks came after Raj Thackeray met Amit Shah in the national capital fueling speculations that the MNS may become part of the BJP-led NDA for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Thackeray called on Shah in the presence of BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde.
This could give a major boost to the alliance in Maharashtra and could help the ruling alliance to create a further dent in the vote bank of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction.
Maharashtra will vote in five phases for 48 constituencies in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Counting of votes will take place on June 4. The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will be held in seven phases starting on April 19 and ending on June 1. The results will be declared on June 4.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 23 out of 25 contested seats, while the undivided Shiv Sena secured 18.
