The ruling BJP on Thursday accused Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi of building an “anti-India narrative” on social media using accounts based in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries.
Addressing a press conference at party headquarters in Delhi, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that even the X account of Congress media department head Pawan Khera is based in the United States.

The BJP leader displayed several X accounts, claiming that they were not based in India but setting false narratives on social media.
These accounts, Patra said, targetted the Election Commission of India, the BJP and its ideological front RSS, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over several issues, including Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of ‘vote chori’.
“Rahul Gandhi is not only speaking against the country when he goes abroad, he is not just trying to create an atmosphere against the country by meeting only Gen-Z, but rather his people sitting in Bangladesh, Pakistan, South East Asia, West Asia, Europe, and America, who have no connection to India, also set a false narrative in India,” the BJP leader alleged.
Patra also claimed that fake narratives were also being created about the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
“Fake narratives are being created about SIR. However, the Supreme Court has clearly stated that the Election Commission is fully empowered to conduct SIR,” he said.
He accused West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee of provoking outrage and inciting hostility against BJP workers.
“What is unfortunate is that the CM of West Bengal said “they will shake the foundation of the country… the BJP will not be spared,” he added.
Congress flags BJP X accounts being operated from foreign countries too
The Opposition Congress was quick to trash the BJP’s allegations, claiming that accounts linked to the saffron party, including the X handle of its Gujarat unit, were also operating from foreign countries.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate explained that X has launched a new product that provides information about the account’s location.
However, Shrinate stated that X has itself clarified that this location can change due to travel or some technical glitch and the data may not be accurate.
“But on this, BJP held a press conference and said – many handles of Congress supporters are being operated from abroad. This is a conspiracy against the country. In such a situation, I want to tell them that BJP or Narendra Modi are not the nation,” she said.
Shrinate further said that if it is about the handles, then the BJP should also answer why the X account of Gujarat BJP, Startup India are operating from Ireland and DD NEWS and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s account from America.
“Many handles of BJP supporters are operating from Malaysia, South Africa, South America. BJP should answer why the X account of Narendra Modi’s piece of heart, Rashtramitra Adani Group is operating from Germany?” she asked.
Taking a dig at the BJP, she said, “There’s a lot of outrage on social media. People are holding a mirror to the Modi government’s failures, but you’ve found such a frivolous issue to respond to.”
“The truth is that the country is in danger from the Modi government…,” the Congress leader added.
