Though delegates at the state conference strongly criticised the state leadership during the political discussions , there were no signs of an organised move against Binoy. Neither the faction supporting K E Ismail nor those backing K Prakash Babu named an alternative candidate.
Meanwhile, the CPI has demanded scrapping of governor posts in states . In a resolution presented at the state conference in Alappuzha on Thursday ,the CPI has demanded the abolition of the post of governor, alleging that the Centre is misusing the institution to weaken the federal structure of the country.
Stating that the governors are increasingly withholding bills and creating crises in state legislative assemblies, the resolution says that the constitutional duty of governors is to give assent to laws and amendments passed by democratically elected state governments.
The resolution accused the Centre of using governors as instruments to capture power in states and demanded that the post of governor be scrapped through a constitutional amendment.
