Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday invoked the Ramayana to target West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, comparing her reaction to his claim that the BJP will form a government in the state to the arrogance of Ravana before being defeated by Lord Rama.

Addressing a rally in Bagdogra, Shah said, “When I said that our government was going to be formed, Mamata Didi was making fun of me. I want to tell Mamata Didi, when Lord Ram built the Ram Setu and entered Lanka, Ravana was also laughing. But, before he knew it, Lanka was destroyed.”

Launching a scathing attack on CM Banerjee, Shah accused her of institutionalising corruption under her rule. He said that the Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal government is the most corrupt in the country.

“I can say without hesitation that there is no government in this country more corrupt than Mamata Banerjee’s government in Bengal. Mamata Didi says there is no corruption. Mamata Didi, you have institutionalised corruption. You are blinded by your love for your nephew; you can’t see the corruption…,” he alleged.

‘Infiltration matter of national security, Bengal govt allowing it’: Shah

Shah also targeted the Trinamool Congress government in Bengal over the issue of infiltration, calling it a matter of national security.

“The infiltration from Bengal is not just a matter of Bengal’s security. The infiltration happening in Bengal has become a matter of national security, and therefore, it is necessary to remove this government that is allowing the infiltration,” he remarked.

The border area in West Bengal is guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF), a central paramilitary force under Amit Shah-led Home Ministry. While the critics argue that infiltration falls under the Centre’s jurisdiction, Shah has repeatedly blamed the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government for allowing illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh to cross the border.

He claimed that infiltration stopped in states where the BJP is in power. “The government changed in Assam, and the infiltration stopped. There is a BJP government in Gujarat, and there is no infiltration. There is a BJP government in Rajasthan, and there is no infiltration.”

He further added that the Mamata Banerjee-led government is not giving land to the BSF despite High Court orders.

“Now the Bengal High Court has said that Mamata Banerjee should give all the land that the BSF needs before March 31, 2026. Mamata Didi is not going to give the land even after the High Court’s order,” he said.

The Union Home Minister asserted that Mamata Banerjee’s time is up and a BJP government will soon be formed. “By the end of April, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chief Minister will hand over all the land to the BSF within forty-five days.”

He said that the BJP government, if formed, will identify the infiltrators and deport them.

“I am saying this today, not only will the infiltration stop, but every single infiltrator will be identified and sent back from Bengal. And that is why Mamata Banerjee is afraid of the SIR, because she knows that if the SIR is implemented, the infiltrators will be removed,” he said.

Shah said that 2026 is going to be the year of change and transformation for Bengal. “In the 2026 elections, we have to completely uproot the Trinamool Congress government. They have completely ruined Bengal. I am telling you this today that the year 2026 is going to be a year of change for Bengal, a year of transformation,” he added.
