PM Modi witnesses IAF’s spectacular air show at newly-launched ELF in Assam; Sukhoi Su-30MKI, Rafale feature at highway airstrip

The ELF is the first of its kind in Northeast India. The facility opens an identified stretch on the highway as an alternative runway during contingencies, which would be capable of handling emergency landing and take-off operations of fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday witnessed a spectacular aerial display of fighter jets and helicopters by the Indian Air Force at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh, Assam. The Prime Minister was welcomed on the stage by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in Dibrugarh. PM Modi began his one-day tour of the state earlier today by landing at the ELF in Dibrugarh.

The ELF is the first of its kind in Northeast India. The facility opens an identified stretch of the highway as an alternative runway during contingencies, capable of handling emergency landing and takeoff operations for fighters, transport aircraft, and helicopters. This will also prove instrumental during Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in far-flung areas.

Magnificent aerial display of fighter jets

PM Narendra Modi and others watched the air display by the Indian Air Force’s fighter jets at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh.

The display included the Indian Air Force’s Sukhoi Su-30MKI taking off from the newly-built Emergency Landing Facility.

Also, the Indian Air Force’s Rafale took off from the 4.2-km-long highway airstrip on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh.

PM Narendra Modi also watched a presentation on the significance of Moran Emergency Landing Facility (ELF), as Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh briefed him.
