Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday said Assam cannot move forward without the participation and empowerment of Adivasi communities living in the state.

Addressing a gathering organised by the Assam Adivasi Students Association in Tinsukia district, Soren assured that Jharkhand would stand with Adivasi communities in Assam and support their struggle for rights and recognition.

He said Adivasi, Dalit and backward communities have historically faced social and economic disadvantages but have continued to fight for their rights.

Referring to the legacy of tribal movements, Soren said Adivasi leaders such as Birsa Munda, Sidhu and Kanhu and Tilka Manjhi had led resistance against British rule to protect land and community rights.

The chief minister also referred to the movement that led to the creation of Jharkhand in 2000, saying the state was formed after a long struggle by tribal communities seeking political representation and development.

Soren also criticised previous governments in Jharkhand, alleging that earlier regimes weakened the state and failed to address the concerns of marginalised communities.

He expressed hope that Adivasi communities in Assam would emerge as a stronger political voice and play a larger role in the state’s future.
