Anti-vote rigging stir will be bigger than Jayaprakash Narayan movement: Sanjay Raut

“More than 300 MPs of Parliament protested and fought for the protection of democracy on the streets of Delhi. The current Election Commission should study how former Election Commissioner TN Seshan worked during his tenure and how he made people follow the model code of conduct,” Sanjay Raut told media persons.

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP and chief party spokesperson Sanjay Raut said here on Tuesday that the movement against “vote rigging” would be bigger than the 1975-77 anti-Emergency movement led by the late freedom fighter Jayaprakash Narayan.

“Modi, Shah, and Fadnavis came to power using deceit and lies. The Election Commission is not neutral but a thief. We have seen for the last 10 years that the Election Commission has become a branch of the BJP. We are with Rahul Gandhi in the battle against the Election Commission, which has begun. This movement will be bigger than the 1975-77 Jayaprakash Narayan movement against the Emergency”, Sanjay Raut said.

“Rahul Gandhi has researched the Election Commission data. All details of irregularities are on the Election Commission website itself. You consider Parliament as the highest temple of democracy, but people who came to power by stealing and beating in the same temple are ruling us. The Election Commission of this country works as the handmaid of these thieves. When 300 MPs took to the streets in Delhi and marched towards the Election Commission’s office, they were stopped by the Delhi Police and pushed around. Are we extremists or terrorists?” Sanjay Raut said.

“If 300 MPs had stood before the Election Commission’s office in Delhi and presented their stand or report, would the Election Commission have had a heart attack? Who exactly is the Election Commission afraid of? We look at the Election Commission as the guardian of democracy. We believe that they should hold fair elections, but the present Election Commission is not a guardian, but a thief. The guardian has stepped into the role of a thief and is trying to eliminate the opposition parties with the help of thieves ruling us,” Sanjay Raut said.

“Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are not immortal. They, too, will have to give up power and the world at some point. Those sitting in the Election Commission’s chair should understand this. If democracy survives, this country will survive. They arrested us on the street and detained us in the police station. There was a delay in getting the arrest documents. So we could not reach Parliament. Taking full advantage of that situation, the BJP government got all the bills passed,” Sanjay Raut told media persons.
