Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and sought his intervention in recovering Rs 7,058 crore from Telangana power distribution companies and an ad-hoc sanctioning of Rs10,000 crore for the construction of the Polavaram Dam by the Centre and resolving other pending issues of bifurcation.

The chief minister’s frequent visits to New Delhi and meeting the prime minister and other Union ministers to resolve pending issues such as funds for completing the Polavaram project and granting of special category status are yet to bore fruit. This time too he urged Modi to relax component-wise rules in the construction of Polavaram project and approve the Rs 55,548 crore estimated by the technical advisory committee for the same project.

Reddy further urged the prime minister to release compensation to Polavaram flood victims. He also asked for mines to be allocated for a steel plant in YSR Kadapa district. Most of the issues raised by Reddy are pending since 2014 after the unified Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated to carve out Telangana.

The chief minister also met Union home minister Amit Shah. He had left for New Delhi last evening just after the Budget was presented in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly raising speculation. The growing camaraderie between TDP and BJP ally Jana Sena is a cause of concern for YSRCP ahead of the elections slated for next year.

Meanwhile, TDP claimed that the chief minister rushed to Delhi only to save his party MP Avinash Reddy who is facing interrogation by CBI in the murder case of YS Vivekananda Reddy. TDP Politburo member Varla Ramaiah pointed out that the Budget session was on and took a dig at the chief minister saying that he was spending crores of rupees on chartered flights only to save his brother Avinash Reddy and not to take up any public issues.
