Amid Centre’s renewed push for ”self-reliance’, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that he has moved to Zoho Mail, India’s indigenous platform that rivals to Google’s Gmail.
“I have switched to Zoho Mail. Kindly note the change in my email address. My new email address is amitshah.bjp @ http://zohomail.in. For future correspondence via mail, kindly use this address,” Shah said on X.

At the end of his post, he also said, “Thank you for your kind attention to this matter”, something that US President Donald Trump often writes in his posts on Truth Social.
In response, Zoho Mail said, “An honor to have Shri @AmitShah join the Zoho Mail community. Your trust inspires us to keep building secure, world-class products from India to the world.”
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was another prominent personality to switch to Zoho Mail.
“I would like to inform you all that I have recently switched to Zoho Mail for my email communications. Kindly update your records and use my new email address, pushkarsinghdhami@zohomail.in for all future correspondence,” he said.
Interestingly, Dhami also concluded with a “Thank you very much for your cooperation and attention to this update.”
Several other BJP leaders, including former chief ministers, Raman Singh and N Biren Singh also followe the suit.
On September 22, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had announced that he is moving to Zoho for “documents, spreadsheets & presentations” and urged people of the country to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Swadeshi’ by adopting indigenous products and services.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) had launched a competition to choose the developer of an indigenous web browser under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Zoho emerged as the winner of this ‘Web Browser Development Challenge’, with Team PING and Team Ajna following in that order. Zoho Corporation’s Arattai has also positioned itself as a secure and indigenous alternative to WhatsApp.
In response to US President Donald Trump’s imposition of tariffs on India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stressed the need to make the country self-reliant and renewed his government’s push for ‘Swadeshi’.
Modi appealed to the people of the country to prioritise purchasing ‘Made in India’ products. ‘Aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) was also central to his Independence Day 2025 speech.
During his address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Modi had said that a self-reliant India is essential to a developed India.
“If someone becomes too dependent on others, the very question of freedom starts to fade… Aatmanirbhar is not limited merely to imports, exports, rupees, pounds, or dollars. Its meaning is far broader. Aatmanirbhar is directly connected to our strength,” the prime minister had said.
