In a big win for the principal opposition Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday set aside the administration’s order to vacate the Moradabad SP office. Now, Kothi No. 4 in Civil Lines, which has been the Samajwadi Party’s hub for the past three decades in Moradabad, will remain with the party.

Today’s order was issued by a double bench of Justices Arindam Sinha and Satya Vir Singh after a hearing. The court rejected the government’s argument and said that it had taken hasty action. The administration argued that the office was being used for political activities. The other side argued that everything was legal, and therefore, this was a malicious action. The court then declared in its decision that the administration’s action was not legal. Subsequently, the notices to vacate the office were canceled.
Earlier, Moradabad District Magistrate Anuj Singh had canceled the allotment of this bungalow, which had been in Mulayam Singh Yadav’s name for the past 31 years. The DM also issued a notice to vacate the bungalow within 30 days.
On October 6, the local administration attempted to take possession of the bungalow with force. SP workers had requested for time till October 10 to vacate the bungalow.
Meanwhile, SP District President Jaiveer Yadav filed a petition in the High Court regarding the matter. Hearing the petition on October 9, the High Court granted a stay order.
