Akhilesh Yadav visits BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal at hospital after she suffers burn injuries while setting fire to his effigy

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday visited BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow where she is undergoing treatment after sustaining burn injuries while burning his effigy during a protest.

Posting pictures of his hospital visit on X, Akhilesh Yadav said, “We do not want fire to erupt among the people of society. We want showers of harmony to prevail in society.”

Emphasizing the healthy tradition of positive politics, the SP chief said that he visited the BJP leader and wished him swift recovery.

“Politics has its own place, and the importance of human relationships has its own place. May goodwill endure, may harmony endure!” Yadav added.

Jaiswal, an MLA of the ruling BJP from Bahraich, sustained serious burn injuries to her face and forehead while burning an effigy of Akhilesh Yadav during a demonstration organised by the BJP against the INDIA bloc for opposing the Constitution Amendment Bill that sought to link delimitation with the implementation of women’s reservation.

As she lit the matchbox to set the effigy on fire, it exploded with a ball of fire rising and her hair catching fire. Her supporters helped her and rushed her to hospital.

Akhilesh had also shared the video on X, saying those lighting fire should be cautious. “Fire lighters, be cautious. Arrangements should be made for the treatment of the woman who sets fire,” he had said.
