After BJP switch, what Congress turncoat Bhupen Borah said on Gaurav Gogoi’s ‘Pakistan link’ allegations
Congress turncoat Bhupen Borah, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, has addressed the issue of Pakistan link allegations against his former boss and Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, suggesting the allegations may have resulted in the party’s defeat in panchayat elections.
Speaking to news agency ANI after taking the saffron plunge, Borah said that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was publicly raising the issue of Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan links before the panchayat elections and he had suggested the party leadership to file a defamation case.

“Before panchayat election CM of Assam was talking openly about his Pakistan connection in every meeting. I wrote AICC suggesting to file a defamation case for greater interest of Congress party and we lost panchayat election,” he said.

Borah, however, said that what the court will decide in the matter is not his concern. “What people of Assam will decide is what concerns me…,” he said.
Borah, who quit the Congress over differences with Gogoi, said that the situation of the Grand Old Party in Assam is alarming. “Those concerned about the state can no longer be with the Congress.
He cited the example of Congress leaders’ controversial remarks. “A Congress MLA, Sherman Ali, called all the martyrs of the Assam movement dacoits; I immediately expelled him. Another Congress MLA in Assam said all priests are rapists, now his name is recommended for the assembly election in Jaleshwar. Another Congress spokesperson said when Congress comes to power under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, 45 assembly seats will be reserved for Muslims.”
He also claimed that Congress social media head Aman Wadud has written a book in which he claimed that the Assamese are not indigenous people. “How can I work with such a team…,” he added.
